Summer is definitely here, days are starting to get really hot, don’t ask me how hot, and as I don’t want to know what is happening above 30 º C. So, last week-end I was not keen on roasting myself on the beach like a rotisserie chicken, fair skin, not a good idea. So I went down to the Orb river near Reals near Murviel-les-Beziers, just north-west of Beziers.
The river Ord runs through one of the Languedoc’s most pristine forests, water is fresher and cooler than the summer sea, and it is easy to find a quiet spot to have a picnic in the shade. The greatest thing is that on a really sweltering day there is always a sweet breeze in the valley. How to find the perfect spot? Just follow the river, find a little path down to the bank and there it is.
The next day, I woke up late in the morning and bang, it’s melting hot outside. I wanted to go back. But there are so many great secret places around, you can certainly find another one that will be just as nice. A few Google pages later, I am calling the Canoe Montana Club and we are booked for a 10km kayak trip on the Orb.
For 20 Euros/person, you have it all, equipment, pick up arrangement upon arrival and great service. If you are up with the family, just ask the guy for advice at the club, because we came across a few people lying on the bank who really felt alone in the world and did not think wearing a swimming suit or anything was necessary…
It really was a great week-end and I managed to tan without burning red! And sorry about my English I am French but I try to write in your very complicated language.
