There’s nowhere quite like Nice for a party atmosphere … it’s what the Riviera is famous for, and it rarely fails to deliver. Most visitors arrive by air and just those first steps off the plane into the warmth of the Cote D’Azur are enough to get the pulses racing. While for those travelling to Nice by rail, even the speedy TGV means a rather longer wait for the fun to begin - however, that’s about to change this Spring. Overnight party trains from Paris to Nice are planned to start in April - on offer will be DJs, disco and talent competitions, all-night bars and a dance floor big enough to get in the mood for more of the same in Nice. Carriages next to the bars will be turned into lounges with soft lighting, all designed to keep the party going. It follows the scrapping of the of the traditional Train Bleu sleeping car service to the Riviera - an era that began 135 years ago. There will be little time for sleep in the new service. Onboard activities will be organised with computer and software makers invited to stage games. Target audience for French railways SNCF is the 18-30 age group.Marketing director Ludovic Bonnet said:” They tend to travel in a festive spirit and we want them to get a taste of the festivities before they reach their destination”.The new service will run from Paris to Nice, Montpellier and Biarritz at weekends during the spring and autumn and every day during July and August.One-way fares to Nice will start at 15-20 euros - compared with 90 euros for a standard fare at the moment. Comfort is not what this service offers - for those needing a rest before arriving in Nice, it means a return to les couchetttes, those narrow beds in compartments usually shared with strangers - though, on this service, who knows, maybe new friends.
